Supporting Families Through The Ronald McDonald House Charities Pop Tab Program
Throughout February, Rawlins Middle School (RMS) home rooms will compete in the Pop & Pull Tabs Challenge. Collect those small aluminum pop/pull tabs to support a great cause! The home room that collects the most tabs by the end of the month will earn a special reward at the end of the month. The Rawlins Middle School Pop & Pull Tabs Challenge is part of a much larger, global initiative run by Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). This program provides an incredibly simple yet powerful way for communities to support families of seriously ill or injured children.
How the Program Works:
Collection: Participants, like the home rooms at RMS, collect the small aluminum tabs found on soda, juice, and other beverage cans.
Donation: Once collected, the tabs are delivered to the Colorado Ronald McDonald House.
Recycling: RMHC sells the aluminum tabs to local recycling centers. Aluminum is highly valuable for recycling, and the tabs are pure aluminum, making them an easy and efficient item to process.
Funding Support: The funds generated from recycling the tabs are a vital source of unrestricted income for the local Ronald McDonald House or RMHC chapter. This money is used to cover operating expenses, which in turn helps provide housing, meals, and support services to families so they can stay close to their child receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Why Only the Tabs?
Size and Storage: Tabs are small, lightweight, and easy to store in large quantities without taking up much space.
Safety: Collecting tabs eliminates the need to handle potentially sharp, bulky cans.
Purity: The tabs are made of high-quality, pure aluminum, which recycling centers value, making them a consistent source of revenue.
By participating in the RMS Pop Tabs Challenge, every student is directly helping to provide a "home-away-from-home" for families during one of the most stressful times in their lives.
